A NEW environmental guide has placed company cars, the provision of fuel and free car parking spaces under the political spotlight. The guide - called 'Changing Journeys to Work: an employer's guide to green commuter plans' - received immediate backing from Gavin Strang, Minister of Transport, who said the population had to reconcile its desire for greater mobility with the need to protect and enhance the environment.

'I believe employers have a duty to their organisations and staff and to the wider community to ensure that the impact of their transport patterns on the environment is kept to a minimum,' he said.

'Changing Journeys to Work' was prepared by environmental transport association Transport 2000 and London First, the group lobbying to make the capital a better, cleaner city for business. For a copy of the report, priced £30, call 0171 388 8386.
