ACCIDENT Assistance, the accident management and claims handling company, has been bought for an undisclosed sum by Consolidated Financial Insurance, a subsidiary of GE Capital Services.

Accident Assistance, formerly part of the United Kenning Rental Group, handles accident claims, vehicle repairs, credit hire and credit repair, and uninsured loss recovery on behalf of 500 insurance brokers representing 300,000 policy holders. It also deals with between 150 and 200 bodyshops and franchised dealer repairers.

Steve Evans, managing director of Accident Assistance, described the company's acquisition by CFI as 'very exciting', and said it would open up new opportunities. He said the new resources provided by GE Capital would help the company to grow rapidly in an industry where strong credit lines are essential for credit hire and repair.
