THE Government looks set to launch an anti drink-drive style media campaign to inform drivers of the hazards of using mobile phones while on the move.

Ministers are considering how best to tackle the problem after junior transport minister Baroness Hayman told the House of Lords action needed to be taken to increase public awareness of the hazards of using both hands-free and hand-held phones.

A Department of Transport spokesman said a campaign including radio and television advertising, as well as leaflets and posters, was a strong possibility although no final decision had been made. The move follows two court cases concerning deaths caused by drivers using mobile phones.
