TRAFFIC information provider Trafficmaster has launched a multi-million pound extension of its road monitoring system. Fleet managers and drivers will be among core target customers for products using the new expanded network, which now covers the trunk road system on top of motorways which have been monitored for nearly 10 years.

Traffic monitors throughout the network have been upgraded, allowing for a more accurate and up-to-date picture of traffic congestion to be built up. Launching the system at the firm's brand-new control centre, Lord Whitty, Minister for Roads, said the scheme was an important example of public private partnership to improve road transport highlighted in the white paper on integrated transport. The Government had helped in allowing the use of motorway bridges and verges for the installation of the system.
