HAMPSHIRE Police has taken on 15 dual-fuel Ford Fiestas using grants from the Energy Saving Trust's Powershift initiative. The force has been given 50% of the cost of installing liquefied petroleum gas into the Fiestas, which officially joined the fleet of 748 vehicles.

Calor Autogas will provide refuelling facilities at the Hampshire Police depot in Millbrook, Southampton. A spokesman for the police force said: 'We ran an LPG Ford Transit and Vauxhall Astra for a year before deciding to extend the fleet. This is a toe-in-the-water exercise really, although there may be more LPG vehicles at a later stage.'
