BROMLEY Council has taken delivery of its first gas-powered vehicles as part of its commitment to maintain and improve air quality, and called on local fleets to follow its lead. Two liquefied petroleum gas Ford Courier vans and an LPG Ford Transit have joined the council's 120-strong fleet.

The Courier vans will be used by the council's car parking division, one by meter mechanics and the other by the 'pay and display' supervisor, while the Transit will be used for courier duties. The council has issued an open invitation to local businesses to use its LPG refuelling installation until green fuels are more readily available on garage forecourts, and pledged future vehicle acquisitions, where possible, will be dual-fuel.
