THE Government has joined forces with the Association of Car Fleet Operators to launch a new fuel efficiency guide for fleet managers at next week's Donington Park Fleet Motor Show. The Budget-beating guide - 'Fuel-efficient Fleet Management' has been written by ACFO director Stewart Whyte, who is also managing director of Fleet Audits.

It is the latest good practice guide funded by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions under its energy efficiency best practice programme, whose industrial and transport activities are managed by ETSU. The guide provides guidance on controlling fleet fuel costs while helping the environment.

It covers fuel management, vehicle emissions, driver training, vehicle selection, specification and allocation and provides contact details for companies wanting to investigate the use of alternative fuels or implement a company travel plan. It highlights how fuel cost savings of 5-10% can be achieved by most fleets for little additional investment - savings which would offset the 6% increase in fuel duty announced in the March Budget.
