FLEET drivers could face bills as high as £2,000 if they fail to get European breakdown cover while travelling abroad, AA Fleet Services is warning. It has launched a campaign to remind drivers and fleet managers that cars can be covered by a phone call to a single number, no matter what the size of the fleet.

The AA is trying to boost awareness of the phone line to cater for customers, especially small fleets, who would have used its chain of 142 high street shops to buy cover. The shops were closed as the AA focussed on core services.

Ray Combs, general manager of AA Fleet Services, said: 'A quarter of the 100,000 British motorists who break down in Europe each summer have no breakdown cover for their vehicles, despite being towed off the motorway costing £60 or more and recovery from Spain costing £2,000.' The AA calling for fleets to sign up to AA Five Star Europe, which allows individual vehicles or large fleets to be covered in Europe.
