A NEW internet system claims it can halve the administrative costs associated with ordering and buying vehicles. Cap Gemini and AutoLocate have developed TransLeasePRO Order Manager, and are targeting the service at fleets and dealers.

TransLeasePRO Order Manager handles the entire vehicle ordering process, from quotations to purchase orders, order tracking and invoices. The system extends Cap Gemini's TransleasePRO vehicle maintenance control system that is used by 1,600 garages and repairers, and forms the basis for Ford's new Ford Fleet Servicemanager. Cap Gemini and AutoLocate say TransLeasePRO Order Manager will cut the average administrative cost of purchasing a vehicle from £90 to £45.

Fleets and dealers face no initial investment for the TransLeasePRO Order Manager service, but pay on a transaction-by-transaction basis. Graham Sharpe, head of CAP Gemini's TransLeasePRO operations, expects the first fleets and dealers to start piloting the new system by the end of January 2000.
