TWO companies have decided to appoint in-house fleet managers to take charge of their vehicles at a time when many fleet managers jobs are coming under threat from outsourcing. Iceland Frozen Foods is advertising for a fleet manager to take charge of its 1,000-strong home delivery fleet of vehicles and Hays Partspeed has also decided in-house management is the way to go and Mike Dewick has been appointed fleet manager of the fast growing fleet of 65 commercial vehicles.

These appointments come in the wake of outsourcing deals where fleet managers and their support teams have been axed. Dewick has taken up his new position with Hays Partspeed and says: 'The company hadn't got a fleet manager before and the vehicles were simply being nursemaided along. Hays realised the need for a full-time fleet manager and also decided the best way to do it was through in-house management.'
