MERCEDES-Benz is to add a new flagship model A-class, while also improving the specification on the entire range. The new 125bhp 1.9-litre A190 has a top speed of 123mph and a 0-62mph time of 8.8secs. It also has a close-ratio gearbox and increased torque.

It goes on sale in July at £17,990 on the road, and as standard will include 16in alloy wheels with disc brakes on the front and rear. Safety features include Electronic Stability Programme, Acceleration Skid Control and anti-lock brakes with a Brake Assist system.

A190 models will be available in Elegance or Avantgarde specification and new optional equipment being introduced for the whole range includes fold-up centre armrest, illuminated vanity mirrors, body styling kit and special interior colours..
