DEMAND in the public sector for alternative fuels has led to major changes at one of the sector's leading exhibitions. Public sector leasing company TransLinc - which will be holding its annual ride and drive event on Saturday, June 5 - has renamed the event Ride and Eco Drive '99.

Among the exhibitors at the event - being held for the sixth year running at Grimsthorpe Castle, near Bourne, Lincolnshire - will be Vauxhall, Ford, Volvo, Rover, Peugeot and Renault. A half-day seminar, repeated in the afternoon, will feature discussions on alternative fuels.

John Soulby, Translinc sales and marketing director, said: 'Five years ago, we held our event with an environmental theme. Even then, we were trying to lead the market but interest levels were limited. However, the fleet market is now looking at the way alternative fuel issues are handled by local authorities and other public organisations, and you can rest assured the private sector will follow suit.'
