New SLR to be built in Woking

MERCEDES-Benz is to build the SLR sports car in Britain at McLaren Cars' factory in Woking following a £135million investment with first sales scheduled for 2003, making the model the first UK-built Mercedes.

It is powered by a 544bhp V8 engine, and first ideas of what it will look like came when a prototype was revealed at January's North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
