FLEET managers are offered a guide through the details of carbon dioxide-based company car tax in the latest version of Tolley's Tax and the Business Car. The heavily-revised guide takes account of this year's Budget announcements on company car tax and provides detailed examples of how fleet car drivers might be affected when the CO2-based tax is introduced on April 6, 2002.

Areas covered also include leasing, calculating the tax due on a company car, VAT issues and an examination of structured employee car ownership schemes. Commenting on the guide, which is supported by HSBC Vehicle Finance and is now in its fourth year, author Alison Chapman, a tax partner with Deloitte & Touche, said: 'There will be many winners and losers as a result of the new tax regime. Although it will be a simple system, the move from three mileage bands to potentially 21 CO2 scales could be potentially daunting. This book provides the information in the most logical manner possible.'
