FLEETS have just weeks left to consider safety improvements before publication of the Government's road safety strategy, which could drastically alter the way they operate. A spokesman for the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions said the report was expected to be released 'within weeks'.

It was expected to be launched in January after originally being planned for autumn 1998 and already, delays have caused outrage at Brake, the non-profit making road safety charity. A spokesman for the DETR said the launch was expected, adding: 'Details in advance are very limited, but there is a high likelihood that it will be launched by the end of February.'
