COMPACT car specialist Daihatsu has launched yet another small car - the YRV - which will enter the UK in September. Powered by a 1.3-litre 16v engine, the YRV's European premiere took place at the Geneva Motor Show.

Daihatsu also announced it was expanding its Sirion range with a 1.3-litre model from the summer using the YRV's engine. The launch of the YRV and the new Sirion model comes as the manufacturer claims UK fleet managers are increasingly looking to downsize. The YRV, which effectively replaces the Grand Move, is a micro wagon with higher rear seats and equipment including front and side airbags and ABS.

Daihatsu will also introduce a six-seat compact MPV later this year featuring the new engine. Last year Daihatsu recorded record UK sales for the third consecutive year which included 4,440 sales - up 35% year-on-year - to fleets.
