FLEET managers must embrace telematics technology to help cut down on vehicle running costs or risk being exposed as inefficient and wasteful. The warning came at a conference organised by Lex Vehicle Leasing on the changing face of the company car market.

Chris Reynolds, marketing director of RAC Business to Business, told the audience that fleet managers had to adapt, and technology could help. The choices available fall into four categories - traffic information and navigation systems; automatic emergency and breakdown vehicle location devices; off-board diagnostics and the fully web-enabled car.

Reynolds said: 'Telematics will make workers far more accountable.'
