FLEETS have given unanimous backing to diesel as a key fleet fuel, despite the Government imposing a 3% company car tax supplement in the Budget. A survey of Fleet News Budget Briefing delegates showed that of those who ran diesel vehicles, not one would be dissuaded by the extra taxation.

Fleet NewsNet calculations have shown that despite the supplement, diesel is still the most tax efficient fuel to use because of its extremely low CO2 emissions. The Government has promised to remove the supplement for the cleanest diesels and Sara Woollard, personal tax division policy adviser at the Inland Revenue, revealed to ACFO members last week that this would rely on cleaner emissions, not just the technology used in diesel engines.
