Healthcare firm axes 600-strong company car fleet

ROCHE Healthcare is to axe its 600-strong UK company car fleet and offer staff a cash-for-car alternative. The Hertfordshire-based company has appointed BCH Vehicle Management to handle the transition from contract hire to personal contract purchase and will be the preferred PCP provider through its AutoChoice scheme.

Roche's human resources director Chris Bennett: 'During the selection process we were conscious of our need to choose a vehicle management company that could demonstrate a complete understanding of the complex issues involved and provide us with a tailored solution to fit our drivers' personal circumstances. The feedback already received from drivers has been very positive.'

Under the new scheme, a monthly cash sum is credited to each driver to cover or contribute towards the costs of funding and running their vehicle. BCH has launched a dedicated telephone number and internet site to offer drivers a support facility and give access to quotations and information on the tax implications.

Mel Dawson, commercial director at BCH, said: 'With company car taxation changing in April 2002 and the focus on flexible benefits, we believe PCP will continue to grow. The combination of our consultancy approach and the new online quotation system helps companies offer a real alternative to their employees without burdening the company with increased administration.'
