MITSUBISHI has revealed the car it claims will give it the widest range of go-anywhere vehicles in the world and which could go on sale in the UK in two years. Despite being described as a concept, the ASX multi-activity vehicle is the US-styled version of a model that will be launched in Japan in May.

The addition of this rival to cars like the Volvo Cross Country and Audi Allroad means Mitsubishi will have the most comprehensive range of four-wheel drive cars. Based on the platform of the latest Lancer Cedia, the ASX is being promoted as an active sports crossover car, powered by a 2.4-litre version of the GDI four-cylinder petrol engine, with the option of a 2.0-litre multipoint injection unit.

It is due to go on sale in Japan this summer prior to being made available in Europe and other world markets from January 2003.
