FLEET managers are making more use of the internet to assess the impact of company car tax issues, according to a leading consultancy. Fleet Audits' free tax calculator spreadsheet, which can be requested via the Fleet Audits website, underwent a major revision in September and demand for the service has rocketed.

The calculator shows the break-even point for the amount of private mileage to reach tax efficiency, and also shows whether drivers will gain or lose when the new company car tax regime begins, based on emissions rather than list price from April 2002.

Stewart Whyte, managing director of Fleet Audits, said: 'We are not the only organisation to offer this type of service, but it has become popular because it is highly relevant. In the revised version, instead of looking at break-even mileage, it talks about the break-even condition for tax purposes.'
