AN anti-car crime website is targeting fleet drivers and decision-makers as part of a £3.5 million Government campaign to cut down on vehicle break-ins and theft.

The interactive website provides a guide to keeping your car crime free and also lists the latest test results on the most secure cars around.

Details of the vehicle security levels according to manufacturer are available on the site along with step-by-step guides to keeping criminals at bay. The site will also be expanded to provide regional statistics on vehicle crime to inform owners of the level of risk in their area.

Thefts of and from vehicles fell 7.2% to 968,400 offences in the year to March 2001, the first time the total has been below 1 million in 13 years. However, it still accounts for nearly a quarter of all recorded crime and costs over £3 billion a year.
