TOYOTA has adopted a radical new model designation strategy and pricing for its new Corolla which reaches UK showrooms next month.

Labels such as S, GS and GLS have been ditched in favour of T2, T3, T Spirit and T Sport as the company tries to broaden the appeal of the car across Europe, particularly with fleet customers.

Driving pleasure and perceived quality have been emphasised, while the car has been priced alongside the Volkswagen Golf in recognition of Toyota's faith in its ability to appeal to more buyers.

The car goes on sale in January with the entry-level three-door hatchback 1.4 T2 priced at £10,795 on-the-road. The current Corolla 1.4S is priced at £8,960 on-the-road. The new car has four airbags, ABS/EBD, a CD/ radio, and remote central locking as standard across the range.
