VEHICLE telematics and data management company Recall has won a major contract to supply its vehicle management system to all of BCH Vehicle Management's new leased vehicles. The Traffix vehicle management system will be fitted to the entire BCH fleet - currently 25,000 units - as vehicles are renewed over the next three years in a bid to drive down fleet operating costs and offer an improved service.

The system operates over a mobile telephone network and offers real-time fleet management capabilities to provide a two-way link between an in-vehicle 'black box' and a central computer system. Nigel Fletcher, BCH's deputy managing director and operations director, said: 'This system allows us to communicate with drivers and proactively book cars in for a service by accurately measuring a driver's mileage.'

He added that the device would be fitted into all vehicles but only activated if the fleet manager agreed he wanted to use the device. The system also has a built-in tax calculator to record business and private mileage, which can produce all the information for a driver's P11D.

As well as online fleet management, the technology allows fleet managers to provide a full driver analysis, track vehicles and improve route management, increase vehicle security and provide automatic bookings for services and repairs. The basic fleet management package is included as part of the monthly rental but there are charges for optional extras such as monitoring tyre pressure.
