A DIESEL version of BMW's X5 is now on sale in the UK. Using the same engine which powers the 330d and 530d, but with improved torque, the X5 3.0d costs almost £1,100 less than its petrol equivalent, and almost matches the range-topping 4.4 V8 for pulling power (302lb-ft of torque against 325lb-ft). However, it records 29.1mpg on the combined cycle, compared with 21.9mpg for the X5 3.0i and 20.3mpg for the 4.4i.

The 3.0d will be available with an automatic gearbox initially, priced at £33,145 for the entry-level model and £35,045 for the Sport version.
