Fleet bosses can assess drivers by using a driver risk assessment CD or DVD developed by Risk Answers. Sister company DriveTech will then offer drivers a tailor-made training scheme.
During the 25-minute test, drivers answer multiple-choice questions about risks on the road. Afterwards, skilled managers run through the answers and pinpoint strengths and weaknesses.
Jeremy Hay, Risk Answers' sales and marketing director, said: 'Too many fleets think the answer to cutting at-work road accidents is to send staff on a training course.
'But first they must assess the risk their drivers are being put through and in many cases it will only be a small number of drivers - typically 20% of a company's staff - who actually require driver training.'
