ALMOST a quarter (20–23%) of the 4,500 'mobile' employees of Origin Nederland have welcomed a new mobility option which provides them with a fixed cash allowance rather than a lease car with fuel card.

This allowance can be used at their discretion for public transport, occasional vehicle rental, ad-hoc use of their own car, or to purchase a bicycle which qualifies for a special tax benefit. Survey results reveal that about 70% of those yet to commit to the new regulation are interested in making more frequent use of public transport. (April 2000)
