Yaris diesel hits record books at 130mpg

TOYOTA has set the world record for 'maximum mileage on one gallon of fuel' with its Yaris diesel, after driving instructor John Gough of Gloucester covered 130 miles on a single gallon, beating the previous record of 112 miles.

The 1.4-litre D-4D engine has an official combined fuel consumption figure of 67.3mpg and is now also recognised by Guinness World Records for 'maximum mileage on one litre of fuel' at 28 miles.

Gough maintained an average speed of 35-40mph while using sensible driving methods to achieve the most economical fuel consumption.
