May 2000: JAPANESE and Korean car manufacturers have committed themselves to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from passenger cars in line with their European counterparts.

Manufacturing associations JAMA and KAMA have given their support to the European Commission's goal of all new cars sold in the European Union in 2009 emitting an average of 140g/km of CO2. Manufacturers under the umbrella associations include Daihatsu, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Daewoo and Hyundai.
