Liberalisation call

May 2000: THE European Commission has recognised that e-commerce in Europe requires greater efficiency in logistics and lower telecommunications costs. Frits Bolkestein, EC member in charge of internal market and taxation, said: 'Transport networks are either clogged with traffic or bogged down by inefficient monopolistic structures. Postal services operate inefficiently. Telecoms liberalisation is still incomplete. We need to complete liberalisation in all these sectors.'
