FLEETS are being targeted with a new device designed to tackle the growing risk of car-jacking facing high-mileage car drivers.

Siemens Datatrak will launch Trakbak II in April, which includes a new driver verification system in addition to traditional car security, such as immobilisers and alarms.

When drivers get into their vehicle, new security checks, which can be as simple as pressing a hidden switch, must be carried out, or the vehicle will automatically register itself with the police as stolen.

Robert Kobler, managing director, said: 'This development ensures that possession of the keys is no longer enough to get away with the crime.'
