SCA Recycling, the UK's largest recycled paper processor, has cut its accident rate in half and improved fuel consumption by investing in driver training through Lex Transfleet.

The firm, which has a fleet of 93 vehicles including LCVs and HGVs, has seen a 43% reduction in claims while the fleet's fuel economy has risen by 10% after four years.

Chris Collier, SCA operations director, said the training had created a culture change and added that driver motivation had also increased because of the in-house driver of the year awards'.

Driver training was introduced in 1998 following a massive review of SCA's transport and logistics operation. The firm worked closely with its supplier, Lex Transfleet, to develop the training.
