Alan Cathcart, chairman of the board at Avis Europe, is joining the executive committee of Belgian-based automotive group D'Ietern SA.

The company said that in addition to furthering the development of the group as a whole, he will have specific responsibility for D'Ieteren's international shareholding interests, including Avis Europe, of which D'Ieteren is majority shareholder.

He joins on May 1, after stepping down as chairman of Avis Europe. Sir Bob Reid, currently senior non-executive director of Avis Europe, will succeed Cathcart as non-executive chairman.

Avis Europe chief executive Mark McCafferty said: 'We are delighted that Alun will continue to be actively involved in Avis and that we shall still benefit from his extensive experience. Sir Bob is an established member of the board who has a wealth of experience and we welcome him as chairman.'

The company has also announced that finance director Chris Cowan is leaving the company in April to join international financial markets broker Prebon Yamane.
