SAAB has taken the wraps off its new 9-3, a compact sport saloon that the manufacturer says will spearhead a new family of cars.

The car (pictured) will come with three turbo-powered petrol engines producing 150bhp, 175bhp and 210bhp, alongside a 125bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel. Saab says it offers more interior space than the current model, within the same overall length.

The new car promises lower running costs with Saab forecasting scheduled servicing costs down by 30% compared to previous models.

The new 9-3 will go on sale in the UK in September, with an Aero version due next January.
