PERODUA is making a bid for a share of the fleet market with tax-conscious drivers looking at downsizing.

Its new Kelisa is priced from £5,425 on-the-road, and with carbon dioxide emissions of 121g/km, the car will remain in the lowest 15% band for benefit-in-kind tax beyond the scope of the current rules.

A spokesman said: 'We know the Kelisa will appeal to urban drivers and those company car users who cover fewer miles than the average sales executive and want a small and efficient new car.

'Now the taxation is based on emissions rather than mileage covered, we suspect that more people will want to lower their tax burden by downsizing to a more tax efficient car.'

The taxable benefit of the Kelisa 1.0 EX is £713 (15% of the £5,300 P11D price) and a standard rate tax-payer's annual bill would be £174.90.
