Amsterdam CV Show: Transit goes on a course of steroids

ON display at the Amsterdam CV Show was the muscle-bound Transit Jumbo, boasting a 4.25-tonne gross vehicle weight, dual rear wheels, a load volume of 14.25 cubic metres and a payload of 2,198kg.

The long wheelbase, hi-roof model comes with a choice of two 2.4-litre turbodiesel engines, pumping out 88bhp at 4,000rpm and 147lb-ft of torque at 1,800rpm or 123bhp at 3,800rpm and 210lb-ft of torque at 2,300rpm.

Ford claims industry-leading security features such as a lock-in-latch system for the load area which eliminates the use of rods and wires which could be tampered with by a would-be thief.

The Jumbo also features an engine immobiliser, remote keyless entry with central locking, key-operated bonnet release, lockable fuel cap and VIN etching. Warranty is two years/unlimited mileage.
