LONDON mayor Ken Livingstone has been urged to scrap London congestion charging for vans over 3.5 tonnes, as long as they conform to Euro lll emissions standards.

Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders' chief executive Christopher Macgowan has written to Livingstone saying: 'The industry welcomes efforts made to broaden the range of clean vehicle technologies that qualify for discounts.

'We think you should base these incentives on European emission standards.'
