VAUXHALL is believed to be on the verge of signing a deal with EasyCar for 1,500 Corsas, ending the rental company's exclusive agreement with Mercedes-Benz for the A-class.

The three-door Corsa models will initially be available from its Earls Court site in London and will cost £7 per day - £2 less than an A-class rental - and customers will also be able to gain discounts on the one-off preparation fee if the cars are brought back clean.

If the Corsas prove successful, then a pilot scheme with other cars could be put in place at other EasyCar locations.

The move comes just three months after EasyCar was talking to Renault about offering Clios at one of its London sites, but does not mean the company will be ending its relationship with Mercedes-Benz.

However, it is the first time EasyCar has not sourced vehicles through DaimlerChrysler and the switch to sourcing from more than one manufacturer will help the company grow its fleet by 50% from 5,000 cars to between 7,000 and 8,000 cars as well as drive down costs and move towards making a profit.

Although the deal has not been finalised, EasyCar is advertising Corsas on its website easycar.com, indicating that a formal agreement is imminent.
