Tracking helps slash fuel bill

JB Doors, the garage door and electronic gate expert based in Rotherham, slashed its fuel costs by £500 in a month after becoming the 3,000th customer of electronic vehicle management expert Minorplanet Systems.

JB operates a fleet of four vehicles and employs 16 people. Formed in 1984, it is a preferred contractor for firms including Carillion, Finingley Airfield and Rotherham Borough Council and has used the Minorplanet Vehicle Management Information system to track and monitor its fleet.

Daren Baker, joint managing director of JB Doors (pictured above), said: 'We had the Minorplanet VMI system installed in January this year and started making substantial savings almost immediately.

'After just one month, we saw a £500 reduction in fuel costs. However, the VMI system has also helped us streamline and improve our service.

'We are also gaining an extra 20-25 more man-hours, which equates to a 10% increase in productivity. We have not had time to use the system to its fullest as yet, but we expect to make even more savings once we do.'
