Ford Fusion first

FORD has started production of its new Fusion, the Fiesta-based urban MPV, at its assembly plant in Cologne, Germany.

The car is due to go on sale in autumn 2002 and Ford plans to manufacture 69,000 Fusions this year, followed by a regular production of 680 Fusions a day.

Ford has invested $600 million in modernising the Cologne production plant.
