CAR production increased during September, up 6.3% according to statistics from the Office for National Statistics, with export production surging 18.9%.

Figures are set to climb even further during 2004, according to one industry body. Christopher Macgowan, chief executive at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said: 'Production is now set on a firm upward trend that is likely to continue through 2004.'
