TRANSPORT Secretary Alistair Darling has awarded a Vauxhall Zafira Club to a member of the Motability Scheme.

The Zafira has been specially adapted with hand controls which operate the accelerator, brake and indicators and has given London-based Len Clark additional independence.

Darling, who is senior parliamentary patron of Motabililty, said: 'The private car will continue to be enormously important to many disabled people. Since 1978 Motability has provided vehicles to over 1.7 million disabled people in the UK, through the provision of a car. I am delighted to hand over this car and to help celebrate Motabililty's Silver Jubilee.'
