THE Government will continue to use brightly painted speed cameras despite recent press coverage indicating that more hidden cameras would be introduced, according to the Department for Transport.

Lobby groups Transport 2000 and the Slower Speeds Initiative have called on the Government to use hidden cameras in a bid to reduce deaths on the road. Transport Minister John Spellar said: 'The Government is committed to road safety and we continue to believe that yellow speed cameras have a vital role to play in deterring speeding on our roads.'
