NISSAN will target small business owners working in the service sector with its new light commercial vehicle, called the Kubistar.

It goes on sale in October and the manufacturer says it will offer a highly competitive entrant in the car-derived van sector. The vehicle is based on the Kangoo produced by Nissan's alliance partner Renault, which dominates the sector, along with the Vauxhall Combo and Citroen Berlingo.

Nissan is aiming the van at the small business owner who is more likely to transport lighter loads and drive relatively short distances for deliveries.

Prices will start from £7,000 and the UK line-up has yet to be finalised, although the company expects six different engines to be offered, including three dCi diesel units.
