THE forthcoming ban on hand-held mobile phones behind the wheel has prompted a telecommunications company to order a fleet of 15 new vehicles.

Intercity Mobile Communications anticipates more work for its team of field engineers who fit hands-free car kits and fixed carphones at customers' homes or places of work.

The engineers have been given current model Renault Scenic 1.9 dTi Expressions, and personnel manager Jan Solarska said: 'Our field engineers like having enough room to stand and work under the tailgate, as most of their work is done outdoors. There's plenty of storage for all their kit and the elevated cabin is something they all enjoy.'
