ROAD safety charity Brake is urging drivers to slow down as part of its campaign for road safety week starting on Monday.

The theme of this year's road safety week is 'save a child on foot'.

Several fleets have launched initiatives to coincide with the week, including Nationwide, which has asked its fleet drivers to sign Brake's 'pledge to drive safely' and TNT Logistics, which is highlighting the week on employees' wage slips.

To coincide with road safety week, Brake has conducted a survey of 1,500 UK children, which found that 75% want more speed cameras and 50% said crossing in front of their school was dangerous. More than two thirds think drivers should slow down in front of schools and 40% are scared by roads when on foot.

Road safety week runs from September 22 to 28.
