DRIVERS have been urged to follow a 'smarter' approach to safety in a new checklist from Budget Insurance Services.

With research showing that up to 95% of crashes are caused by driver error, Budget has produced the 'smarter' checklist offering reminders and tips on safe driving. The driving tips cover Seatbelts, Mobile phones, Awareness, Restricting speed, Tiredness, Europe and Roadworthy vehicles, which together spell SMARTER.

Budget's product development director, Simon Jackson, said: 'For most drivers, getting behind the wheel of a vehicle is second nature, meaning they let their guard down when driving. Following this simple checklist will ultimately lead to fewer motor insurance claims, which will then be reflected in lower insurance premiums.'
