What’s hot
Mazda Premacy
Relatively unknown among the Picassos, Scenics and Zafiras, the Premacy has the advantage of being rare. The 2.0 Sport looks racier than any MPV has a right to and the ‘zoom-zoom’ ad campaign is rubbing off
Peugeot 607
Few people like large French saloons in the UK, and there are relatively few of the latest generations. Values for cars like the Peugeot 607 have stabilised while the 2.2 HDi in SE or Executive trim are exceptional value
Honda Civic – 2004 model year
Dealers are paying big premiums for the latest versions of the Civic, more of which went on sale at the end of last year. In some cases they are paying more than £1,000 more than for an equivalent 2003 model
What’s not
Mercedes-Benz S-class – pre 2003 model year
Normally a class benchmark for residual values, the pre-2003 model S-class can find the going tough without factory-fitted satellite navigation, now a must for luxury cars
Nissan Terrano
The Terrano is very much an old-school 4x4 and is beginning to suffer against the likes of the X-trail. Price-led customers who need a workhorse will still buy one, but an X-trail will fetch £1,500 more at auction
Hyundai Coupe
The Coupe is not doing badly – as long as you have the right colour. The yellow car introduced as a special edition earlier this year is not doing as well as others, and solid colours are less desirable than metallics
