A NEW organisation urging companies to consider alternatives to the car when planning journeys has been launched.

With backing from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), the Meeting Without Moving Foundation wants to address the issue of at-work driving.

Television personality Noel Edmonds, who is the foundation’s chairman, is urging fleets to recognise unnecessary journeys as irresponsible, undesirable and anti-social.

He said: ‘We have to adopt a fresh approach to at-work travel. With the internet, teleconferencing and videoconferencing now ubiquitous, it an easily achievable goal for all businesses at all levels to embrace viable alternatives to unnecessary business travel.’

Chief executive John Blackwell said: ‘Managers who continue to send staff on unnecessary journeys should be encouraged to consider the alternatives to ensure they are not held responsible.’
