    Land Rover Discovery 3
THE last word in off-road gadgetry, all but the basic Discovery 3 models come with air suspension and Terrain Response, which adapts the vehicle’s settings according to conditions. Also a practical seven-seater, the Disco 3 has much improved quality inside, with better materials and a luxury-car finish. We hope customers’ cars stand up to repeated off-roading better than the press launch vehicles, though.

    Honda FR-V
A FEW years ago, Fiat had the idea of putting six seats in a compact MPV in two rows, setting the centre seat in the front row a little further back. Honda has developed this idea, with the same principle for rear seat passengers, in the new FR-V. The car will be launched with a choice of two petrol engines but next year Honda’s excellent 2.2 i-CTDi engine will be offered, giving the FR-V 140bhp, 251lb-ft and more than 45mpg.
